Avoid Build-up of Spiritual Plaque
And be not fashioned according to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, and ye may prove what is the good and acceptable and perfect will of God. -Romans 12:2
Are you familiar with atherosclerosis? It is caused by plaque building up over time in your arteries and puts you at a higher risk for a variety of serious heart diseases. Medical experts tell us it is both preventable and treatable.
God has given us abundant provision to keep the spiritual plaque from building up in our lives. The LORD warns of “hardness of heart”. In recovery, the term used is “self will run riot”. The 10th step of AA: Continued to take moral inventory of ourselves and when we were wrong PROMTLY admitted it.
“If we confess our sins, He is faithful and righteous to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.” 1 John 1:9
As sinners, we continue to stumble, fall, and fall short. But the negative spiritual residue is completely optional. Jesus handles all the heavy lifting at the cross. Our role is examination of conscience and willingness to let go of our control and our stubborn ways.
Meditation: What am I hiding in the dark caverns of my heart? What resentments am I holding on to?
